Making the Massage Last
Do you ever have a massage, feel great for a few days and then your muscles go right back to being tight? Well there's a few things you can do to help enhance your massage experience as well as enhance the benefit and perpetuate the relaxed feeling.
• It’s your time. Remember to let the therapist know what you like, don’t like, and any medical conditions you have. The more you share, the more individualized your treatment will be. If at any point during the massage you need the temperature, pressure or even the music adjusted, just let the therapist know. Your comfort is the most important aspect of the treatment.
• Leave plenty of time to get to your massage. Over scheduling yourself and rushing anywhere, never mind to your massage, will inevitably make it harder for you to relax. You may even arrive late, missing part of the appointment..
• Breathe. Focus on your breathing and not the to-do list. If you find yourself thinking of work or errands just take a deep breath and as my good friend Elka would say, “Just Let It Go”. There’s plenty of time for that stuff later.
• Don’t plan to do anything strenuous after. The best thing you can do for yourself is to continue relaxing, have a good meal and enjoy a little nap. Your body needs time to heal.
• Drink plenty of water. It is my experience that most people do not drink enough water during the day which can reduce the ability of your body to remove toxins. You don't want raisins for muscles now do you. :-)
• Take a warm bath with Epson salt and/or Sea Salt for about 20 minutes. This will help relieve soreness and further relax you.
• Get some rest. Your body repairs itself while resting so give it what it needs.
• Be aware of recurrent patterns, such as leaning on one leg, elbows on the desk, holding the phone with your ear… the list goes on. Basically anything repetitive should be done in a conscious manner. Have your entire body working instead of one part.
These are just a few ideas you can try.
Special Thanks to my good friend Dennis Quill. The computer wiz who gently pushed me to get this project going as well as my website. I couldn’t have done it without the help. So on that note if anything isn’t right on the site just let him know. |
